Mizners on the Move: The Next Chapter

Alright, friends—it’s officially happening. We’re packing up life in Omaha and hitting the road on this sunny Saturday. We made sure to give Omaha a proper sendoff: the zoo (because no one does zoo days like Omaha), the Durham Museum (history + trains = kid gold), and finally the planetarium for one last big hurrah with homeschool besties.

And now… it’s road trip time.

Here’s the plan:

  • First stop: Lenexa, Kansas—because let’s be real, dinner that doesn’t involve PB&Js in the car is non-negotiable.

  • Then: An overnight pit stop. Translation = kids jumping on hotel beds while mom and dad pretend not to see.

  • Next: Strawberry Plains, TN to scope out some possible new homes. We’ll sneak in at least one actually fun stop before pushing through to Manassas, Virginia.

And here’s where it gets spicy: somewhere along the route we’re swinging into Dinosaur Land in White Post, VA. Think towering fiberglass dinos, a giant purple octopus, and a King Kong hand begging for selfies. It’s weird. It’s wonderful. It’s exactly the kind of memory you want stamped into a road trip.

From there, we’ll roll into Manassas, Virginia, my hometown, where we’ll be hanging out with family for a month before making our way to Knoxville.

Road Trip Fun: License Plate Bingo + A New Game

Of course, we’ll be playing License Plate Bingo—a classic. But we’re also spicing things up with:

Road Trip Story Builder

  1. One person starts: “Once upon a time, a dog learned how to drive a minivan full of snacks…”

  2. Each person adds a sentence.

  3. The only rule: no “The End” until everyone’s laughing too hard to keep going.

This game is hilarious, doesn’t require supplies, and guarantees at least one “Mom, stop, you’re embarrassing us” moment.

Mom-Approved Road Trip Checklist: Kids + Dog Edition

✅ Snacks & Drinks – A mix of healthy and bribe-worthy.

✅ Entertainment Bag – Tablets, books, activity packs, and headphones.

✅ Games & Printables – Bingo sheets, scavenger hunts, story game rules.

✅ Comfort Items – Pillows, blankets, and yes, that stuffed animal that can’t be left behind.

✅ Dog Essentials – Leash, collapsible water bowl, food, waste bags, blanket for the backseat.

✅ First Aid & Cleanup Kit – Band-Aids, wipes, sanitizer, paper towels, trash bags.

✅ Chargers & Power Bank – Because nothing ruins road trip peace faster than a dead iPad.

✅ Change of Clothes – For everyone. Trust me.

✅ Camera/Phone – Because dino-octopus selfies are basically a rite of passage.

Knoxville: The Next Chapter ✨

While the road trip is going to be its own adventure, our Knoxville home search is where the real excitement lies. And let me tell you, we’re in the BEST hands with Nikki, our sharp-eyed, powerhouse realtor, and Kayci, our rock-star lender. These two are like the Batman & Robin of real estate—nothing gets past them.

But Knoxville isn’t just about a house—it’s about building our next chapter. We can’t wait to plug into the local community, connect with new friends, and start creating a life we love there.

Oh, and did I mention? We’re about to dive into our third year of homeschooling. This year feels different—more confident, more intentional, and way more exciting. New city, new friends, and fresh opportunities to learn alongside our boys.

Here’s to new friendships, big conversations, and a whole lot of women supporting women. Knoxville, we’re just getting started.

So here we go: Omaha goodbyes, dino detours, Manassas pit stops, and Knoxville dreams. Buckle up—it’s going to be a ride.

And if you want to laugh (and maybe cringe) along the way, don’t forget: you can follow the whole journey on Find Penguins right here → Track our adventure.
