Tell us a little bit more about yourself.
I live in Nottoway County, VA, with my husband and three of our children. We moved to the county about 5 years ago from Bowie, MD, outside of Washington, DC. We wanted to be where we were going to settle before we retired, and it was the best decision of our lives.
I am a wife and mother to five children (3 boys and 2 girls). Our oldest is married and preaches in North Carolina. Our middle son is in the Air Force, stationed in Nebraska, and our youngest son is a Junior at Longwood University in Farmville, VA. Our eldest gave us our first grandbabies (set of twins) in July. As an added bonus, they live only two hours away.
I wear many hats, as I am a wife, homeschooling mother to two daughters, work remotely part-time as an accountant, and am an online travel agent.
How long have you been in business?
I have been in business since June 2023, and was introduced to the travel industry by my beautician. She sent me a 10-minute video and said, “Just view this video and let me know what you think.” There was no pressure at all and, after watching the video, I knew that I wanted to begin my travel agent journey. I was always the travel agent for family and friends.
I was bitten by the travel bug when I was in the 10th grade. I had an opportunity to spend the Christmas break in Spain! We traveled to Madrid, Barcelona, Segovia, Avila among other cities. Being able to experience other cultures was fantastic. I was aware then that I wanted to travel, and I married a man who loves to travel.
What can clients expect when they work with you?
Those that work with Smith-Hairston Travel can expect personalized service. We like to connect with our clients who, to us, are not just a “booking.” We believe that engaging with our clients builds relationships and enhances the travel experience – especially for first-time travelers. We strive to better understand our clients, which will help us ensure
they have an enjoyable and memorable travel experience. Our clients will receive detailed information about their travel arrangements and continuous support from beginning to end. This would include assisting with any last-minute changes, emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances. We can provide expert advice on destinations, accommodations, and activities.
What do you love about your business?
I love connecting with people. I have a passion for travel and want others to experience the same. Helping my clients to plan and make memorable trips is rewarding. Also, I love the flexibility of being a travel agent.
